Ambient Magic is magic that is not god-granted. It comes in the forms of wild sorcery and mysticism. Ambient magic has had long periods of non-use by most, all throughout the Age of Might and the Age of Despair and into the Age of Mortals. Some creatures, such as dragons, have always had access to the powers of ambient magic; although, most humanoid creatures went from the end of the Age of Light to several years into the Age of Mortals without the knowledge of ambient spellcasting.

Mystics use the power of the heart, soul, and life itself to create divine magic similar to that granted to clerics by the gods. Mysticism returned to Ansalon in the year 388 AC, when Goldmoon healed a dwarf using advice given her by an old sage.

Sorcerers use the power of Krynn itself to manipulate the elements and energy of the world around them to create arcane magic similar to that used by wizards. Wild sorcery returned to Ansalon in 403 AC when the Shadow Sorcerer brought knowledge of it's use to Palin Majere.
