Aurum (c. 579 PC - ? AC) was a large gold dragon, who was over 930 years old at the time of the War of the Lance.

Biography[]

Early Life[]

The gold dragon long ago tired of the wars and battles of men, and shied away from the world, choosing to dwell amongst the animals and nature that he loved. Because of his general disgust for humanoids, Aurum never assumed the form of one, and would instead often polymorph himself into a number of different animals, primarily a horse, eagle, shark or badger. In much earlier times, Aurum presided over an animal court, however in his later years he stopped acting as the king of the animals, and kept to himself instead.

War of the Lance[]

When news spread that Harkiel the Bender and his foul chromatic dragons had stolen the metallic dragon eggs, Aurum argued that the metallic dragons must not intervene in the war, to protect their children. He believed that ultimately evil would turn on itself and all would turn out fine. However, when Aurum discovered that the metallic dragon eggs had been warped into Draconians, he entered the war to aid in the recovery of any remaining eggs. Directly following the war, Aurum returned to his lair and entered his long sleep, to sleep away and forget about the warlike ways of men.

Personality and traits[]

Aurum measured over two hundred and thirty feet in length, from nose to tail. The mighty gold dragon had smooth and small fitting scales that gave him a near scale-less appearance, and a number of small horns dotted his head, along with two larger ones above his ears.

Aurum preferred sleep more than anything else, rarely leaving his cave. When not in dragon form and outside of his lair, Aurum most preferred to take the form of a powerful white horse.
