Basalt Slatefield (? PC - ? PC) was a Hylar dwarf who became the first High Thane of Thoradin in 613 PC. He was also the grandson of the Hylar explorer Horn Dunbar. Basalt assumed the office during a time of trouble within Thoradin. The clans had begun to war with each other and the future of the nation was bleak.
Basalt's creation of the position of High Thane was met with criticism by the Theiwar and Daergar clans. They eventually accepted his position because they believed that the Hylar had the greatest traditions concerning fairness and wisdom. Basalt would prove to a clever leader and ended the internal fighting of the clans.
