Caele (? AC - ? AC) was a male half-elf who was a powerful Wizard of the Black Robes and a favored servant of Nuitari. Caele was one of the two caretakers of the Tower of the Blood Sea. The half-elf was tall, slender and muscular, with light brown skin, pitch black hair and dark eyes. Faded tribal tattoos decorate his chest and arms, and he was known to be ruled by his emotions, ranging from completely calm to insanely angry.
Caele was born as the result of a tryst between an Ergothian sailor and a Kagonesti elf shaman. The young half-elf was at first left with his mother’s tribe, who ostracised him with his mother from birth, since he was not a full-blooded elf. Mother and son lived in isolation, and Caele found he developed dark moods at this time, often delighting in inflicting pain on animals or other people. When he was a bit older, he developed a relationship with a young silver-haired Kagonesti maiden, and tried to convince her to run away with him. However the girl refused and Caele responded by pushing her off the top of a waterfall, watching her broken body smash against the rocks. For the murder, Caele was exiled from the lands as a dark elf, and travelled to Northern Ergoth where he became a thief. On one job, he attempted to rob the mage Dunbar Mastersmate, and the wizard seeing potential in the half-elf offered to teach him magic. For a time, the pair travelled together, however on one voyage over the seas, Caele stole a number of Dunbar’s scrolls and vanished.
A few years later, Dunbar saw Caele again when he arrived at the Tower of Wayreth to take the Test of High Sorcery, which he passed easily, during which he showed his desire for power over his people. Caele claimed the Black Robes of Nuitari, and quickly grew in power, hoping to one day challenge Dalamar the Dark. The loss of the gods following the Chaos War put a stop to his plans however, when magic also left the world. He soon returned to the sea and took up a life of crime, stealing magical artifacts, and then turned to life in the wild once more.
When the gods returned in 421 AC, Caele was one of the most powerful black robes remaining and Nuitari personally sought him out. The god of dark magic appeared before Caele, offering him a position as caretaker of the Tower of the Blood Sea, which the half-elf promptly took.
In 422 AC, Caele cast a complex illusion spell with Basalt Darkeye to convince the god Chemosh, that his lover Mina was dead. However in a short time, Chemosh realised that the spirit of Mina plaguing him was merely an illusion. Nuitari left the tower to converse with his fellow gods of magic, and Caele and Basalt decided to murder Mina. However during their attempt on her life, Zeboim arrived at the tower and distracted the pair. Mina was then able to wrest Caele's knife from him, and then called upon Chemosh for aid, who made two sarcophagi appear which the two wizards were forced into. When the god of black magic returned a short while later, he released Caele and Basalt so they could serve him once more.
Nuitari told Caele and Basalt to prepare the tower for guests, as the Conclave of Wizards had decided to split the three remaining Towers of High Sorcery between the orders, with the Tower of the Blood Sea become the abode of the black robed wizards. The pair were surprised however when Mina used magic to raise the tower from beneath the waves and leave it on a small island near Castle Beloved. The mages were further surprised when the Beloved overran the island, and sealed themselves inside the tower. However soon after Mina (in the guise of a six year old girl), Rhys Mason, Nightshade Pricklypear and Atta entered the tower and spoke to the mages. Mina then went down the tower towards the Solio Febalas, only to find the path to it destroyed. However she used her magic to transport herself, Rhys, Atta and Nightshade through to it, whilst the two mages trailed them. In Solio Febalas, Mina claimed several magical artifacts and used her magic to disable Caele and Basalt when they tried to kill the adventurers. Nuitari appeared, apologised to Rhys and Mina for his wizards and magically secreted them away for good.
