Dragonlance Wiki

Darken Wood is a mysterious woodland in Abanasinia, north of the White-Rage River.

Description[]

Long protected by a great unicorn called the Forestmaster, Darken Wood has been home to the followers of Chislev. For a long time, Darken Wood was also home to a large number of undead and was avoided by most of the living, other than the Forestmaster and her followers. With the removal of the undead, it occasionally has the odd traveler, foolhardy enough to try and brave its depths. Also dwelling within the woodlands are Darken owls, and several clans of centaurs and satyrs who serve the Forestmaster and tend to the forest. The centaurs are highly protective of their woods and prove to be fierce guardians who repel most outsiders from entering. Aspen trees are one of the known plants to thrive in these woods, and there is a game trail that leads into it from Prayer's Eye Peak.

One of the rules of the woods is that you can take lumber, berries, and game as long as it is enough for your means and not more than that.

History[]

Age of Despair[]

In 343 AC, Tanis Half-Elven and Kitiara Uth Matar passed through Darken Wood.

After their flight from Solace, the Heroes of the Lance entered Darken Wood, encountering the Forestmaster and securing onward passage towards Xak Tsaroth.

Chaos War & Age of Mortals[]

During the Chaos War, Darken Wood, under the guidance of the Forestmaster, yielded to the Knights of Takhisis. This did not sit well with Chrethon and he fought them. This led to his banishment, and he became corrupted by a Daemon Tree. The daemon tree, Grimbough, wanted to corrupt the entire woods. Thanks to the combine efforts of Caramon Majere, Dezra, and Borlos, along with the people that lived there, they were able to destroy it. Most of the forest began to heal, but some areas, such as those around Sangelior, would never be the same.
