Dunbarth of Dunbath (? PC - ? PC) was a male Calnar Dwarf who was a dwarven ambassador and ultimately a Thane of the Hylar. In his youth, he was a champion wrestler and gained the name Ironthumb, which his many friends called him after his wrestling career was over. A good deal of his origins are unknown, but it is suspected that he left Thorin with a trading party in search of developing trade with other nations and came across Kal-Thax, where he decided to settle. Dunbarth was the only known Calnar to reach Kal-Thax before Colin Stonetooth and the first Hylar.

Later in 2193 PC, Dunbarth was sent to Silvanost as an ambassador of the dwarves by Chieftain Voldrin to form an alliance with the Elves against the Humans of Ergoth. The ambassador befriended the Silvanesti prince Kith-Kanan on this trip, and did his best to ensure the interests of the dwarves. With the elves and humans, in 2192 PC he negotiated that a militia be based on the eastern border of Silvanesti, which was populated by humans, elves and dwarves.

Following a visit to Kal-Thax by the elven Ambassador Tamanier Ambrodel, Dunbarth was asked by Chieftain Hal-Waith to lead an army to aid the Silvanesti elves in their fight against the forces of Ergoth. In 2190 PC, his army joined the forces of Kith-Kanan and exacted a victory over the forces of Ergoth at Sithelbec, forcing the enemy to flee the field of battle. In 2104 PC, Dunbarth took over coordination of Thorbardin with the Daewar leader Jeron Redleather, following the sudden demise of Harl Thrustweight, Regent of Thorbardin. He supported the rise of Derkin Lawgiver in becoming regent, and Dunbarth himself was in turn officially declared the Thane of the Hylar at this time.

Dunbarth passed away of old age in the years following, with his death reported many years later to his friends among the elves by his son Gendrin in 1892 PC.

Kender Tales[]

Some sources state that Dunbarth was originally a Hylar Dwarf, and that he was an ambassador of Thorbardin in 2193 PC. This is impossible, as Thorbardin didn't exist as a nation until 2149 PC when it was first delved. The Hylar dwarves also didn't exist until 2149 PC, when some of the Calnar migrated from Thorin and became the first of the Hylar.
