Duncan had three sons, all of which died in the final battle at Zahman. The youngest son, Grallen, died because of the betrayal of the other two sons. Because of their betrayal, he buried them in unmarked graves, their names lost to time.
Due to the famines and Diseases his people were suffering from the effects of the Cataclysm, he bared the Hill Dwarves from entering Thorbardin. The Hill Dwarves rebelled, so he sent an army out to keep them away. This started a war between the two races of Dwarves the culminated in the Dwarfgate Wars.
After seeing the costly destruction caused by the war, he ordered the gates of Thorbardin sealed, vowing that no more death will come from the dreadful war. He died an unknown time after the Dwarfgate Wars, his body taken to King Duncan’s Tomb by his friend Kharas.
Duncan is referred to as Derkin by the Neidar.
