The Gateway is a floating rock island that stretches over three hundred feet wide and is fifty feet deep. The island floats just above the Sea of Bones in the Dragons’ Graveyard and is normally located at least a mile is distance from the five large islands. The portal leading back to the Material Plane is a great arch that stands at one hundred feet in height and width, and is interspersed with strands of gold, silver, brass, copper and bronze. The portal remains open for ten minutes once it is activated, after which it closes down once more.
In the center of the Gateway is the Elder Shrine, a shrine built from rose marble that has twelve large pillars that form a one hundred feet outer circle in diameter. The inner circle of the shrine is formed from five metal stanchions, each one forged from one of the metallic colors. Inside each stanchion is a small receptacle that can hold a particular shrine crystal, whilst the five skulls of the Daughters of Paladine reside on five pillars near each stanchion. When the correct shrine crystal is placed in each receptacle, the corresponding dragon skull’s eyes light up. When all five skulls are lit, the Gateway floats into the sky to connect to the Island of Quinari.
Also in the center of the shrine are five precious stones sitting on a podium on a raised dais. The stones on the podium are amber, topaz, citrine, moonstone and carnelian. The Elder Shrine can be used like a Wind Captain’s Chair in a Flying Citadel and guide the Gateway to other islands in the Dragons’ Graveyard, by laying one’s hand over a particular gem.
