The Heresy of Igraine happened when the High Ogre Igraine learned compassion. A mine collapse happened, and Igraine's daughter Everlyn was trapped in the mine. Eadamm's selflessness in putting his own life in jeopardy by saving Everlyn and breaking the law radically changed Igraine's view on High Ogre society and made him realize that nothing was set in stone - every creature has the power to make choices. He released his slaves and asked them to stay on and work. Most did, some left, and when Igraine presented this to the other High Ogre families as a reason he was being so productive, Igraine was branded a heretic and crazy. They ordered his death, and Eadamm began his rebellion against the ogres while Igraine and his followers fled. They would take the name the Irda, and leave the continent of Ansalon.
