Itzan Klertal was the city of Klertal in the eastern Abanasinian Plains on the border with Tsarothelm on the Sageway East trade road between Xak Tsaroth and Shellekal. It sank into the New Sea in the Cataclysm. The term Itzan is an old Kharolian word meaning "submerged" which was added to the names of any city that sank into the sea at that time.

Pre-Cataclysm[]

Before the Cataclysm, Klertal was a "blasphemous place without morals or redemption." The local potentate was whoever could network, bribe, or kill their way into the position. The last potentate was Sullento the Profane, who held the position for nearly ten years before he died in the Cataclysm. He was known for his skill in squashing rebellions.

The city was old and highly developed. Obscene wealth abutted rank poverty. As a rule, everyone, including city officials, cheated and lied. The architecture of the city was in the ancient, classical style, bearing a resemblance to Palanthas. The city was surrounded by tumbledown shacks and swaths of poverty.

The palace was the largest and most opulent building. An open-ended oval-shaped colonnade led to a building taller than the two-story structures around it. A double sided staircase led to a small balcony used to give public pronouncements. Seven archways partitioned the back of the balcony and it's huge double door that led to the throne room. The round throne room had a central dais with a marble throne, the back of the throne facing the balcony.

Post-Cataclysm[]

Above Klertal, a wide and dark section of the sea bubbled and frothed. Sea creatures died near it. The local fishers called it "The Boil" and avoided it. The origin of the bubbling could not be found in the ruins below.

On the sea floor was a rolling expanse of kelp-covered rubble. A green moss growing over all the stones gave off a soft glow. Most of the buildings were collapsed but the palace was mostly intact. From the Cataclysm until 345 AC, the Coral Oracle was cursed to remain in the throne room of the palace.

Undead, mostly zombies, roamed the ruins aimlessly. The city was controlled by Sahuagins who kept huge sharks and occasionally organized the zombies for unknown purposes.
