Kiya (2435 PC - ? PC) was the eldest of the two daughters of Chieftain Makaralonga of the Dom-Shu and became a wife of Tol of Juramona, following Tol's defeat of her father in battle. She was described as a tall and lean woman, who had waist-length blond hair and was well-trained in the art of war. A strong and confident woman, she was the constant shadow of Tol following her arrival in Juramona in 2416 PC.
The Wife of Lord Tol[]
Kiya settled into her life with Tol, whom she was three years older than, initially hunting game outside of Juramona... and then frying it to a charcoal mess on her return. When Tol was requested to come to Daltigoth in 2414 PC, Kiya and her sister also went along. For the next three years, Kiya enjoyed life in Daltigoth and aided Tol in keeping his relationship with Valaran secret. In 2412 PC, when Tol was ordered to investigate rumors of monster XimXim, Kiya and her sister went along for the campaign. Kiya proved a valiant warrior in facing XimXim with her husband and his soldiers and also participated in the Battle of Three Rose Creek. She continued to stay by his side through his station in Hylo through 2411 PC.
In 2401 PC, when Tol was recalled back to Daltigoth, Kiya made the trek through the mountains with Tol, Miya and her husband's companions. After several magical attempts by a mysterious assassin to kill Tol, and a misadventure with a pirate fleet, Kiya made it to Daltigoth with her husband and sister. Following the coronation of Ackal IV, Kiya was disappointed when her sister Miya left her husband's side to court the engineer Elicarno. When Tol left the city to meet with Lord Tumult, Kiya alone went with him.
When Tol rode to face Mandes, Kiya learnt that a beast had entered Elicarno's workshop and attacked Miya and her baby. Elicarno had died defending his wife, and Miya had rejoined her sister. Kiya and Miya found Tol after he'd been beating by Nazramin's Wolves and took him on a wagon out of Daltigoth and back to the Great Green, out of the reach of the new Emperor of Ergoth, who had already done away with his brother Ackal IV.
A Return to the Empire[]
After living with the Dom-Shu in the Great Green for six years, the arrival of Egrin Raemel brought a change for the Dom-Shu people. Tol's former mentor and comrade asked him to return to the empire, and after he received a vision from Valaran, Tol did indeed decide to return to the empire. Kiya chose to return to the lands of Ergoth with her husband, but she made her disappointment clear with Miya who instead chose to remain behind with her son Eli. Kiya made a point of taking her burial beads with her, convinced that this would be her final adventure and she would die. On the way to Juramona, Kiya and her companions came across the elf Tylocost and the half-elf Zala, who they allowed to join their group, and who told of the destruction of Juramona by a vast nomad army. At the ruins of Juramona, Tol attempted to gather the survivors into a fighting force, and sent Kiya onwards to Hylo to gain the support of the kender.
In Hylo City, Kiya spent considerable time trying to convince Queen Casberry to aid the forces of Lord Tolandruth, and finally did at the cost of one hundred gold a day. Kiya then led the Army of Hylo through the Eastern Hundred and during the trek they came across a blockhouse, in which they discovered the Red-Robe Mage Helbin. The mage told Kiya that he was the servant of Empress Valaran and asked her to take him to Tol. Kiya allowed the mage to join the Army of Hylo as they continued on their way and eventually met up with Tol's forces. Kiya served in the further fighting against Chief Tokasin's nomads on the way to Caergoth, which resulted in the death of the chief himself. She remained with the bulk of the army, while Tol raced ahead with a vanguard force to Caergoth.
When the bulk of the Army of the East reached Caergoth, Kiya was reunited with her sister Miya and her father Makaralonga, both of whom had been taken captive and brought to Caergoth earlier by Imperial forces. Kiya continued with the Army of the East through to the outskirts of Daltigoth, where after the army killed the Emperor's Wolves, Tol made the decision to travel into Daltigoth alone. However Kiya once more insisted she was to be by his side, and the two entered the imperial city together. Kiya was amazed when she learned that the Imperial Hordes within Daltigoth had chosen to side with Tol and allow him to pass through and face the Emperor. Her husband bid her wait at the gates of the Innter City whilst he dealt with the emperor on his own. When he emerged from the palace, Kiya and Tol rode out of Daltigoth together, never to return.
Kiya helped Tol and her sister bury Egrin in Zivilyn's Carpet, at which point Tol advised the pair that he was going to live a life of solitude as a commoner. She kissed him goodbye and headed for the Great Green in tears.
Later Life[]
Kiya returned to the Great Green and later married a Dom-Shu warrior named Voraduna, who in many ways resembled Tol. The pair were together for many years until a brief skirmish with some Karad-shu, in which she was mortally wounded by an arrow. Rather than let the Karad-shu capture her, she asked her husband for his dagger and ended her life.
