Lokhar (the Unclanned) are dwarves who have been expelled from their clan for some reason. The Unclanned include members from all of the other dwarven clans.

History[]

A significant minority of the Lokhar are the Twice-Born dwarves. Twice-Born are those who have survived a fight against a Shadow Wight, but not before losing all memories of themselves to a wight. Not many survived such encounters though. At the Battle of Hroldeg's Delve nearly two hundred dwarves were lost to shadow wights with no knowledge remaining of who they were. Of the survivors no-one can remember who they are (especially not themselves) and all details of their past have been erased from existence. This has resulted in them losing any standing in their own clan because of lack of evidence of belonging to one, and so many have joined the Lokhar (though some Twice-Born choose to leave the dwarven lands to become adventurers, like the many who followed Severus Stonehand in his quest to find Thoradin). Prominently the Silverspear Way district of Hybardin lost nearly all of its citizens to shadow wights (like the entire House Oredigger), and only a few Twice-Born survived (such as Shard, formerly of House Ironsmelt).

Habitat and Society[]

Most Lokhar live in the Thorbardin city of Lobardin (City of the Unclanned). It is divided into two parts by a deep rift that a Fire Dragon blasted into the stone during the Chaos War. The Lower City is mainly slums, and is a very dangerous and lawless region. The Upper City consists of relatively poor communities, and is mostly safe. The Ice Wyrm Hall is a famous tavern in the Upper City that is popular among the Twice-Born Lokhar (this mostly because the proprietor is a Twice-Born former Klar Dwarf called Scree who helped other Twice-Born seek knowledge of who they were).

While many Twice-Born live in Lobardin, most moved into the ruined dark dwarf city of Daerforge.

Many of the Twice-Born Lokhar spends their days trying to find clues as to who they once were. This isn't as futile a quest as it might sound because some Twice-Born have managed to regain their identities (prominently a Solamnian woman) by compelling a Shadow Wight to reveal who they were (and it is said that it doesn't matter which Shadow Wight one faces for they all have knowledge of all people whose memories they've ever erased).
