Dragonlance Wiki

Moin Rankel (? AC - 370 AC) was a male Lozlanian human and was the leader of Lozlania for over seventeen years. He was known to be resourceful, a bit pompous, had a sharp mind, and had an imposing figure. He was an agent of the Dark Queen, penning her words to be spread across Ansalon.

In 353 AC, a gold dragon was spotted near their village. Fearing it would destroy their village, Moin Rankel made a deal with Lozlan to kill the dragon and protect their village. Lozlan agreed, and the dragon was killed and a protective shield was place around the village that wouldn't allow another dragon to come in. This agreement came at a steep cost of naming the town after the wizard and agreeing to a 60% tax rate to be paid to the wizard. This went on for seventeen years, and then in 370 AC Moin Rankel had had enough of the ridicule from everyone for making such a terrible deal.

While on his way to take the current taxes to Lozlan, he ran into Aureal singing in the woods. He convinced the boy to come with to the wizard's place. While there, Lozlan was looking over Aureal and Moin Rankel stabbed him in the chest with his sword, killing Lozlan. Lozlan's last words to Moin Rankel was to call him a fool.

Moin Rankel and Aureal gathered as much of the back taxes as the could and brought them back to the village. He was about to show what a good thing he had done when Aureal turned into a gold dragon and killed everyone. Little did Moin Rankel know, but Aureal had been waiting for the shield to come down to get his revenge for his mother's death.
