The Othlorx are the contemporary Dragons of Taladas, who are similar in most aspects to dragons in other parts of Krynn, except for their demeanor and attitudes. The name othlorx traslates directly as "The Uninvolved".

When Erestem released all of evil dragonkind into Krynn, she expected the Chromatic Dragons of Taladas to come and fight at her side. True to their natures, not all heeded her summons. Many saw no personal gain in entering the War of the Lance, and so refused to join her Dragonarmies. Infuriated, Erestem cursed these upstart dragons, causing them to become the first othlorx.

The Metallic Dragons were bound by the Oath of Neutrality to not enter the war, and instead went in search of their missing eggs. However when the metallic clutches were discovered, and Draconians were first heard of, the oath was broken and most metallics readily entered the fray. Some metallic dragons who had journeyed all the way to Taladas felt no desire to return to Ansalon and fight in the war, and they became the first metallic othlorx.

Types of Othlorx[]

Brass Othlorx (Ingothlorx) were the dragons that just didn't feel the need to enter the war. They became shunned by normal metallics and now crave companionship and are often seen cornering intelligent creatures just to have a conversation. They commonly conversed with the Uigan until their destruction in 424 AC. Now brass othlorx are more commonly seen in the company of the Merkitsa Elves of the Dreaming Green.

Bronze Othlorx (Yochothlorx) are the dragons that didn't enter the war, only because they never heard the news. They are isolationist and fairly ignorant of the happenings in the world around them. They prey on the Minotaurs of the Imperial League, and are ever watchful of the impending invasion of Taladas that they are certain Erestem will one day launch.

Copper Othlorx (Vakhothlorx) are those dragons that refused to enter the war out of their purely stubborn streak, and refused to fight in a war they felt that they didn't belong in. Many copper othlorx are indifferent to other folk and even other dragons, however a small few have banded together with Humans and Elves in Southern Hosk to form the Dragon Knights.

Gold Othlorx do not exist as a general rule, as Gold Dragons are far too dedicated to Paladine to ever refuse his summons. The gold dragons that do remain on Taladas are true dragons that care for the metallic othlorx and do their best to protect them from harm. The only exceptions to this are Amanthus, who initially refused the summons and did not enter the war, and Skythus.

Silver Othlorx (Xondothlorx) were those dragons who felt they were incapable of leaving the mortals of Taladas unprotected, and refused to enter the war. The dragons became wracked with guilt over refusing to answer Paladine's call to war, and have become even more rigidly set along the path of good. They respond to any evil act as deserving of instant execution, and often travel the lands of Taladas in mortal form, to ferret out evil in every corner.

Black Othlorx (Shantothlorx) are isolationist and arrogant dragons, that are aggressive to the point of attacking almost anything on sight, yet occasionally being friendly and cordial to visitors. Their frame of mine is unpredictable at best, and they were known to have once formed an alliance with Maladar an-Desh.

Blue Othlorx (Kujothlorx) are the fewest type of chromatic othlorx, being that Blue Dragons are inherently the most loyal type of chromatic dragon to Erestem. A small few found loopholes or old pacts that enabled them to stay on Taladas and they were then cursed by their goddess. The dragons are forced to honor any promise they give, and are therefore now quite reticent. They openly blame humans for their woes and will often attack any encounter on sight. A number of blue othlorx have redeemed themselves and had their curse reversed by fighting against Chaos in the name of Erestem.

Green Othlorx (Ngurothlorx) chose not to enter the war because they preferred their forests and groves over entering the fight on Ansalon. Erestem cursed them to be bound to their homes, and to grow into a maddened state whenever an intruder enters their lair. Because of this, green othlorx are becoming fewer and fewer, as they are unable to mate and travel to the lairs of other green othlorx.

Red Othlorx (Ashothlorx) are the dragons that chose to try and dominate Taladas, rather than enter the War of the Lance. Erestem retaliated by stripping these dragons of their confidence, turning the proud and powerful red dragons into cowardly creatures. Many red othlorx were wiped out during the Godless Night, as they were too fearful to fight back against the forces of Chaos.

White Othlorx (Chakothlorx) are the dragons that outright refused to enter the war, telling Erestem directly that they would not answer her call. She stripped the dragons of any form of true intelligence, even removing their ability to communicate with other creatures. She left the white othlorx with the understanding of what they once were, turning them into vicious brute killers. The Dragon Overlord Gellidus became aware of the white othlorx and hoped to turn them into his own private army. Gellidus used the power of his skull totem to not only restore the intelligence of the white othlorx, but increase it beyond what it originally was, and now the white othlorx are some of the most dangerous and cunning of all the dragons on Taladas.
