Rig Mer-Krel (? AC - 420 AC) was an Ergothian who was once a pirate, then the captain of the Wind Chaser, and finally a Hero of the Heart. Rig was a very tall, had black, short hair, black skinned, muscular, and handsome man from Northern Ergoth. Fiona described him as being "honorable", while he thought of himself as a "rogue". They agreed to say he was an "honorable rogue".
Rig was good at using a variety of weapons, including swords, daggers, garrotes, bolas, and a couple others. He would even wield Dhamon's Glaive while fighting the Dragon Overlords. For the most part though, any weapon that was given to Rig, he excelled with.
Early Years[]
Rig left his home on Northern Ergoth at the age of twelve by stowing away on a ship. He was discovered, but he convinced the crew to keep him on board. He would do many of the small tasks, including climbing the rigging. This was how he got his name he goes by now, "Rig". Some of his youth was spent on Misty Isle.
He grew to love the sea, and the ships he sailed on. Eventually he joined a pirate ship named the Sanguine Lady. While on the ship, he would save his future love Shaon of Istar, from drowning in the Blood Sea of Istar. She would join the crew, and they would continue to plunder ships in northern Ansalon.
By 412 AC, the captain of their ship had grown cautious of being attacked and caught by the authorities. So, the crew along with Rig and Shaon mutinied against the captain. They left him marooned on an island, but at the first port stop, Rig threw away his title of first mate to leave. Shaon went with him. For the next two years, they ferried people from Abanasinia to Schallsea at New Ports on his ship the Wind Chaser.
Hero of the Heart[]
In 414 AC, Rig and Shaon joined Goldmoon's cause as a Hero of the Heart. The volunteered their ship for Dhamon Grimwulf and his companions. Together they traveled to Palanthas, and this was where Rig's world came crashing down. While in Palanthas, Gale, a Dragonlord for Khellendros, attacked their ship and killed Shaon.
Following the death of Shaon and the death of Dhamon, Rig declared they would continue on to Southern Ergoth to kill Frost. He became the captain of a ship owned by Jasper Fireforge named Flint's Anvil. For a time, Rig would live in a sort of daze, having a death wish and taking risks he normally wouldn't have taken. He cared nothing for living with Shaon being dead. Eventually he would move on from this death wish, and fall for a Knight of the Crown named Fiona Quinti.
Rig would assist in many adventures through New Swamp, even when the Heroes made their way to the Window to the Stars to confront the Dragon Overlords of Sable, Skie, Malys, Frost, and Beryl, to stop Malys from becoming the next Takhisis in 416 AC. Through the combined efforts of the Heroes, they were able to stop her from ascending, but Skie was able to go off through the portal. Following the battle, Rig and Fiona agreed to get married, and continued to adventure together following their victory.
For the next couple of years, Rig and Fiona traveled from town to town near the lands of the Ogres. They assisted all they came upon who were being driven away by the Overlords, or who had just fallen upon bad luck. This continued until word reached the two of them that Fiona's brother had been captured in an ambush, and taken to Shrentak in New Swamp.
New Swamp and Dhamon[]
So, in 420 AC, Fiona and Rig set out to find Dhamon Grimwulf to assist them in getting back Fiona's brother. They found that he had fallen in with a band of thieves, and convinced him and his group to journey with them. Fiona was blind to their true intentions, and eventually after being led around by the nose, Fiona and Rig went to New Swamp on their own.
Trappers captured the two of them almost immediately upon entering the swamp. They themselves were taken to Shrentak and thrown in prison. Fiona's brother died while imprisoned in a cramp cell with his companions. Dhamon did come to save them though, but during the ensuing battle Rig was killed when two spears stabbed him in the back in the town where Maab's Tower was. His body was left behind while the others escaped. He would eventually meet up with Fiona when she died.
