Scrounger ( 329 AC - ? AC) was a Half-Kender and a friend to the brothers Raistlin Majere and Caramon Majere. The half-kender first encountered the brothers in the town of Langtree, where they were all preparing to sign on to the Army of the Mad Baron. In 348 AC, Scrounger was nineteen years old, with a mop of shoulder length carrot-red hair, and was small and agile. Like most full-blooded kender, Scrounger was good-natured, however he was much more responsible and less flighty, part of his human heritage.
Early Life[]
Scrounger never knew his father, as his mother couldn't even remember how she came to have her son. He wasn't even certain of his birthday, since his mother told him she didn't know how old he was and asked what age he would like to be.. and he decided on six and he started counting from there. His mother dragged him along on her adventures and would occasionally forget all about him, however people would return the young child to his mother. At the age of eight, Scrounger's mother went into a herbalist's shop and was chased out soon after, when she tried to sell the man mushrooms, which were actually toadstools. Scrounger chased after his mother, but was cuffed by the angry shopkeeper and knocked unconscious. When he awoke, his mother was long gone and he was left alone.
The destitute half-kender was taken in by a miller, who had him work for food in his shop, believing it was cheaper to have children work for food, than to actually pay someone. The miller taught Scrounger to read and write Common, and was going to make him shop foreman, since he was such a good worker. However a soldier entered the shop and told the half-kender about soldiering and the Mad Baron, and Scrounger was overcome by a feeling of wanderlust and left for Langtree.
Army of the Mad Baron[]
In Langtree, Scrounger found himself being picked on by Rogar, a bully of a mercenary. Caramon and Raistlin came to his defence, rescuing Scrounger from a beating. The three then journeyed to Langtree Castle where they were all recruited into the Mad Baron's army. Caramon and Scrounger were put through various training drills, and ultimately were put in Company C, an elite unit for skirmishers. To earn his place in the company, Scrounger found a new Solamnic saddle for his superior, and acquired eight Qualinesti Longbows through trade.
The officers of the army continued to be impressed by the small Scrounger, whose endless courage earned him many friends. When the normal standard bearer of Company C was slain in battle, it was Scrounger who hoisted the company standard and bore it proudly. He was used as a spy on several occasions for the army, disguising himself as a full-blooded kender and entering Hope's End, where he uncovered the truth about the siege and that Commander Kholos was the true villain, and not their ally. Scrounger returned to camp, where he informed his superiors, leading to the Mad Baron's army turning on their former allies and instead aiding the town.
Ultimately the army defeated Kholos' forces and Scrounger became a respected and valued member of the army.
