Skythus (? - ?) was a mysterious figure in the history of Krynn who was originally known as a comrade of the minotaur Ambeoutin and first appeared in the guise of a human Black-robed wizard. Somewhere around 2799 PC, the wizard aided Ambeoutin and the minotaurs in several attacks against the Dwarves of Kal-Thax. The wizard received a vision that Ambeoutin would only prevail over the dwarves if he acquired the Axe of the Emperors, and he advised his friend and sent him on a quest to find the magical weapon. Skythus was left in charge of the minotaurs at this time, wisely guiding them through a series of bloody raids, before the return of Ambeoutin, and the victory of the minotaurs over the dwarves.

In 2735 PC, the Minotaur Emperor Ambeoutin, decided to leave his kingdom to his twin sons Mithas and Kothas. He took his friend Skythus with him on a voyage out on the sea, from which the pair never returned to Ansalon.

Later rumors existed that the mage was in actual fact a gold dragon and one of the only known gold Othlorx. He was rumored to dwell in a cave in a rocky spire in a remote island just a few miles from Baltch. These rumors purported that Skythus was temperamental to the extreme, changing quickly from merriment to anger, as if several personalities warred within his body.

It is unknown whether he was truly a dragon or merely human, and whether he lives to this day or not.

Kender Tales[]

Skythus was occasionally referred to as Skythas, an aberration of his true name.
