The Calnar Dwarf Sledge Two-Fires (? - Midsummer, 2150 PC), a seasoned and dependable scout, was the leader of a mounted border patrol from the dwarven realm of Thorin. Sledge's favorite horse was named Piquin. Unlike his master, Piquin escaped the ambush.
Ambushed[]
While they rode through Crevice Pass, his 15 Calnar strong force was ambushed in the Year of Iron, in the Decade of Oak of the Century of Wind by human mercenaries, who belonged to the army of the wizard Greyfen Ember-Eye.
All dwarves were killed, but the attackers paid a high price in blood in spite of their overwhelming numbers: 17 of the far more than 50, maybe even more than 100 mercenaries were slain on the battlefield by the fierce Calnar, 25 more lost their lives to their wounds.
Sledge had an uneasy feeling about the pass. But he thought that their scout Dalin Ironbar who rode far ahead of them would warn them of any dangers. Unfortunately, Dalin himself had already become a victim of the ambushers. Sledge himself was killed when he ordered his scouts to defend, when he took an arrow through the throat.
