The Staff of Magius was a wooden quarterstaff that had a disembodied golden dragon claw on the top that clutched a pale blue crystal orb. Even though it was named the "Staff of Magius", the staff was actually created long before Magius ever received the staff. The Staff of Magius was known to have been one of the most powerful artifacts on all of Krynn, and was usually with the Dagger of Magius.

Abilities[]

Only a few of the magical powers contained in this artifact are known, most are manifested through the dragon claw crystal.

  • The possessor has the ability to float in the air as lightly as a feather in the spell Feather Fall when they use the magic word "Pveathrfall".
  • When the staff was used as a club the magic of the staff increases

the force of the blow, and the staff can also defend itself when hit, by say a sword, with a Lightning aattack.

  • With the magic words "Shirak" or "Dulak/Dumak" the crystal light would turn on and off on the staff as a Daylight spell. The light has also been known to flare brightly when in the presence of powerful Undead.
  • The staff will always return to its owner, and it is immune to fire except from that of a Dragon.
  • The crystal on top of the staff had the ability to melt locks off,

it can teleport the owner and a party, can enhance three spells a day, and it was known to part water for the user. It also seems that different users of the Staff of Magius gain different powers from it. It might be from the current owner adding more powers to it, or it might have something to do with the creation of the Staff.

Age of Dreams[]

The Staff of Magius was created during the First Dragon War by a Silvanesti Elf named Shadra. After she had assembled the pieces of The Obsidian Chest together, she performed the ritual and drew forth the staff just in the nick of time to teleport her party from Bargoth's lair to safety. Shadra then used the staff to hold off the Chromatic Dragons until the Dragon Stones were given to the elves by the gods of magic. Shadra ended up dying during the war and the staff continued to be passed down from great wizard to great wizard until a wizard named Magius came into possession of it.

During the Third Dragon War, Magius had his staff at his side throughout his life when he changed from Red Robes, Black Robes, Brown Robes, and then finally White Robes. When Galan Dracos captured Magius, the staff was left behind with Huma Dragonbane. Huma would use the staff to destroy the Emerald Orb of Dracos, and then it was left in the care of the Knights of Solamnia. They in turn returned it to the wizards who placed it in the Tower of High Sorcery in Wayreth.

Age of Despair[]

When Raistlin Majere completed his Test of High Sorcery, Par-Salian gave him possession of the Staff of Magius to assist him. Raistlin was given no information on the staff, and would spend many years researching all the spells. He used the staff through the War of the Lance, and into the past when he time traveled back to mighty Istar. Following the Dwarfgate War, Raistlin made his way into the Abyss taking the staff with him. The staff would not follow his commands in the Abyss and changed into a snake and bit him. The staff was given to Caramon Majere by Raistlin to close the Portal of the Abyss, and once that was done the staff was left in Raistlin's study in Tower of High Sorcery in Palanthas.

The staff was seen again following the completion of Palin Majere's Test. His uncle gave him the staff following the completion of it. Palin carried the staff for a few years before the Chaos War came to Krynn. Together, Palin and the staff fought valiantly against the forces of Chaos even at the Battle of the Rift. Following the battle, Palin thought he was giving his staff back to his uncle and that it was drained of power, but new information has been learned that it was actually Takhisis in disguise. It is unknown where the staff currently resides.

Kender Tales[]

Sometimes the word "Dulak" was used to turn the light off on the staff, but this has been said to be wrong. Also, one thought was that the claw on the staff was that of a real gold dragon, but this isn't so.
