The greatest defense of the mighty fortress of Pax Tharkas was the Great Wall, also known as the Great Tharkadan Wall. The wall covered the front of the fortress and protected the Great Gates of Pax Tharkas. The Great Wall was hollow, and the top of the wall housed tons of huge boulders that could be used as a final measure against invaders.
A defensive mechanism was linked from inside the fortress to the Great Wall that allowed the boulders to be released and to rain down on the outside of the Great Gates. The gates themselves opened inwards and could still be operated by those inside the fortress, but it meant that that the outer gates of the fortress were blocked by vast amounts of rubble, securing the fortress for considerable time against would-be conquerors.
