Viper (? - ?) was a male dragon. His spirit was imprisoned in a Dragon Orb that was located in the Tower of High Sorcery at Istar. It is unknown what type of dragon he was, but most likely he was a green dragon.
The Dragon Orb and Lorac Caladon[]
In the late Age of Might, the Silvanesti elf Lorac Caladon came to the Tower of Istar to take his Test of High Sorcery. There Viper, through the Orb, convinced Lorac to take the Orb back to Silvanesti to save it from the coming disaster ((Somehow it foresaw the Cataclysm)). During the War of the Lance, Viper ensnared Lorac when he attempted to use the Dragon Orb to drive away the dragonarmies invading Silvanesti. Cyan Bloodbane was summoned by the Orb and found Lorac under the Orb/Viper's control. Cyan used the Orb to make the Speaker of the Stars nightmares become reality. Through the power of the Orb, Silvanesti became a nightmare land that persisted for years after.
The Dragon Orb & Raistlin Majere[]
In 351 AC, the Heroes of the Lance entered Silvanesti and found Lorac with the Dragon Orb after fighting their way through the Nightmare. Raistlin Majere took possession of the Orb after the Heroes managed to free Lorac from it. Events took their course and when the Heroes where chased into the Maelstrom in the Blood Sea of Istar, Raistlin used the Orb to escape the doomed ship Perechon by teleporting to Palanthas. Raistlin appeared with the Orb on the steps of the Great Library of Palanthas in a near-death state.
After recovering, Raistlin studied the Orb and eventually gained control of it. By subjecting the Orb to his will, Raistlin gained power he had not known before. Raistlin not only used the orb to enslave Cyan Bloodbane, but also added additional powers to the Orb. Raistlin took the Orb with him back in time, and used it during the Dwarfgate War. However, during this time the Orb attempted to take control of Raistlin. Raistlin endured a magical struggle of wills with the Orb and only just managed to save himself. Unfortunately, the orb cracked during this struggle. Later on, a frustrated Raistlin hurled the Orb at a Portal to the Abyss and it shattered.
