Waukani is a nonmagical concoction made by the Qué-Nal that has healing properties. The mixture is golden in color and smells like honey and Pelinta blossoms. Waukani is usually applied to external wounds, but ingesting small doses can help with stomach problems and prevent sickness. Most Qué-Nal households have a jar of waukani.

Making Waukani[]

Every early spring, swarms of insects called Sinta fly over the water the shores of Schallsea. The insects reflect the sun's rays and attract fish called Waukan. The fish jump into the air to feed on the sinta. The Qué-Nal by hand will then catch the fish as they feed. They believe that if using nets or hooks caught the fish they will loose their healing properties. The fish are then placed into pots of water.

The Qué-Nal then gathered the blue blossoms of the plant called Pelinta. The fish and the blossoms are then boiled in water together. They are boiled for hours until the blossoms dissolve. The color of the fish will then change from warm yellow to gold. The fish have to be removed then, if not they will change to a blue-gray color and not have healing properties. The fish are ground into a paste and placed into jars.
